Do you wish you had a little more courage to decorate or redecorate your house or even a specific room? But when you think about getting started you shut down due to overwhelm or fear of it not turning out the way you envisioned it?

I understand!

But now that I choose adventure, the overwhelm and fear has become less frequent and easier to manage. Here is my most recent home adventure, where I choose adventure to decorate my son’s outdoor adventure nursery and create a room for him that I love and am excited about.

We moved into our house almost a year-and-a-half ago. During the building process, I started planning the rooms, including paint colors. While I was searching paint colors and room ideas for my son’s room on Pinterest (my #1 search tool for home ideas), I came across this picture and the vision of my son’s room was born.

I instantly fell in love with the mountain mural and knew I wanted this in my son’s room. When ordering paint for our new house, I made sure to select and order the paint colors I would use for this mountain mural.

This mural is my inspiration for his outdoor adventure nursery. Is it obvious yet how much I love this adventure lifestyle?  😉

Now that I have found my inspiration and chosen a theme, it is time to start pinning ideas on Pinterest and creating a mood board.

I’m going to walk you through the items I included on my mood board.

  1. Theme Inspiration: This tent reminds me of the mountain mural in my son’s room, and it also reminds me of outdoors, adventures, exploring and camping.
  2. Son-Approved: I love this Pillowfort Bear Pillow and bought it for my son the first time I saw it. He LOVES it; It is his favorite stuffed animal and he sleeps with it, using it as his pillow every night. This adorable bear reminds me that not only do I want to create a room I love, I also want a room that fits with my son.
  3. Print/Colors/Design Inspiration: I like throw pillows; Not sure if I will put throw pillows in my son’s room, but these pillows give me an idea for a color scheme in his room and the use of arrows.
  4. Furniture: I will be using the same furniture I used in my daughter’s nursery. This includes a dark espresso colored crib, dresser changing table and a TV unit we use for storage.
  5. Bedding: When I think about bedding for this theme, I think trees, mountains, and wild mountain animals.
  6. Storage: This is really important to me. I am looking for quality, sturdy (able to withstand constant abuse from little kids) and functional storage that will complement the outdoor adventure theme.
  7. Rustic Wood: I love the rustic wood look and plan to have plenty throughout the room.
  8. Wall Art: I plan to have rustic wood wall art that includes mountains, wild animals, and words of wisdom and reminders of what I want for my son’s life. In addition to rustic wood, I will include some metal or wire to mix it up.
