The first step to creating a life of adventure is allowing yourself to think and dream big. Adventure requires you to consider the possibility of doing something that might scare you, make you uncomfortable, or challenge who you think you are. So you have to allow yourself to dream about possibilities before you will ever consider living the possibilities.

The idea of dreaming sounds simple enough, but you would be amazed at how often people start thinking and dreaming about their life only to have their fears swoop in and shut it all down. How messed up is that! We give our fears so much power that they stop us from dreaming, stop us from even considering the possibilities we think about. How are we ever going to live the life we deeply desire if we don’t allow ourselves to dream about it?

We need to shut our fears down ASAP, and here’s how.

Give yourself permission to dream. Your dreams start and end with you. Fears and other people should have zero input into what you dream about. That is what makes them YOUR dreams.

Start today; spend time thinking and dreaming about your life using the following to guide you.

  • What your life looks like today.
  • Do you like your life. Yes. No. Somewhat.
  • What you wish it looked like.
  • What you would change today if you could.
  • What excites you.
  • What you love doing.
  • What kind of a person you want to be.
  • At the end of the year, at the end of your life, when you look back, what are you going to feel good about, proud about, and satisfied with?

If you don’t have a journal or notebook at home to write your thoughts and dreams down as you go through this series, I highly encourage you to buy one. It is always beneficial to put thoughts down on paper and to be able to look back on and reflect. Here are some fun options if you need to buy one.

Allow yourself the time and space to think and dream big.

Entertain ALL ideas and write down EVERYTHING that comes to mind; even if you think it is unrealistic or ridiculous, and even if you can come up with 50 reasons why it would never work.

Ignore the fears that pop up. Don’t give them control.

There is no harm in writing your dreams and ideas down. No one has to see them. No one has to know about them. Remember, just because you write it down, it doesn’t mean you have to do anything about it.

Give yourself permission to write down EVERYTHING you think of. Don’t hold back.

Here at Leavenworth Adventures, I talk a lot about pursuing the life you deeply desire and love. Allowing yourself to dream big will lead you to discover your life desires.

When thinking and dreaming, pay attention to the ideas that have repeatedly popped into your mind over the years, the quiet whispers that make you stop and think, the thoughts that pull at your heartstrings, the ideas you spend time wondering about, and the dreams that make you think, “If only life was different.” All of these are potential life desires.

Your life desires and the thoughts and ideas that repeatedly appear, they make you long for something different, something better, they make you evaluate your current life, and question whether or not it is time to make a change. And sometimes, the dreams and ideas that scare you the most are the ones that lead you to your deepest life desires.

But it all starts with allowing yourself to dream!

Every day I realize how important it is to dream big and use my life desires to guide my daily decisions and actions. It is the dreaming and discovering of your life desires that are the biggest contributors to creating a life of adventure.

 Dream big my friends,

Corene at Leavenworth Adventures
